The whole story, finally in one place

Two years ago this week we stood in the hallway with our coats still on, breath showing in the cold, looking at a 200-year-old house that had no business being ours yet. The plaster was coming off the walls in sheets, and there was a hole in the kitchen ceiling. We plugged in a kettle, opened a bottle of champagne, and had absolutely no idea what we were in for.

We've spent the last few weeks working on a special video, pulling all of it together. Every room, every project, every bit that went wrong and the slow stretches where it finally started to come right. It's the whole renovation in one place, beginning to now, and at nearly an hour it's less of a quick watch and more of a settle-in-of-an-evening sort of thing. Which feels about right for two years of our lives.

The house when we got the keys vs 2 years later

It's all in there. The kitchen we built from scratch as our first woodworking project. The old windows we couldn't bear to skip, which are now the walls of the greenhouse. The jobs we'd happily never do again (hello, insulation), and the morning it first stopped feeling like a building site and started feeling like home.

The last 2 years went so quickly, and we cannot wait to see what this house looks like in another 2 years. We've loved sharing our journey so far, and a great perk of filming every project is that we can truly take in how far we got.

If you've been here a while, we'd love to know when you first found us. Right at the start, somewhere in the muddle of the middle, or only recently. Just hit reply and tell us, we read every one. And if you know someone in the thick of their own old house, the sort who needs reminding that the chaos does eventually pass, do send this their way - we hope this will motivate to keep it up!

À bientôt,

Hello everyone, A new video just landed on the channel and this one is a good mix of big progress, satisfying before-and-afters and a healthy dose of spring in the garden. Go grab a cuppa and give it a watch! Now let me fill you in on a few bits in more detail… The attic is taking shape We’ve hit a pretty big milestone upstairs. Half of the attic is now fully insulated, which honestly feels massive after all the hours (weeks!) we’ve put in up there. The insulation is in, the moisture control...

Bonjour everyone, Hope you're all well! We've just dropped a new video and I'm genuinely excited about this one. You can watch it here: So, the attic insulation saga has officially begun. We're using wood fibre insulation, which we love for an old house like ours, but cutting it to fit snugly between the roof battens? That's another story. Hugo, being Hugo, spent an entire day designing and building a custom jig that lets us slice each piece to the exact size we need. Honestly, even if...

Bonjour everyone, After what felt like weeks of relentless rain, the clouds finally parted long enough for us to tackle a project that's been on my mind for a very long time... And honestly? It was worth the wait. I'd been holding onto our old windows for ages, quietly hoping we'd find just the right use for them rather than letting them go. The original windows we repurposed for the greenhouse As it turns out, they were destined to become a little greenhouse. It's compact and sweet, almost...
