New video: updated garden tour and plans for next season

Bonjour everyone,

Our latest video is live, and this time we’re taking you on a proper tour of the gardens to show you how much progress we’ve made since the last update. It’s been a busy few weeks out there, and things are really starting to take shape, so grab a cuppa and come have a wander with us!

🌸 The front garden

Earlier this year, we planted the yew hedges, and they have been thriving since. They now frame two neat borders and bring some much-needed structure to the space. The idea is to fill those borders with a mix of perennials and ornamental grasses, creating layers of movement and texture that will contrast beautifully with the formal lines of the hedges.

Looking further ahead, we’re planning to replace the current paths with gravel, which should soften the look and make the space feel a bit more timeless.

🌻 The back garden

This is where the real transformation has happened. What was once a bit of a dumping ground is now starting to feel like an actual garden. First, we cleared away all the rubble and then added wood cladding along the back to hide a rather unattractive wall. That simple change has really helped frame the space and make it feel more intentional.

We also built a stone terrace, which is already a favourite spot for morning coffees, and installed six raised beds, now bursting with flowers. It’s amazing how quickly they’ve brought colour and life into the garden.

Next on the list: sowing grass to properly green up the space, and I’m dreaming about adding a potting table at the back — a small touch that will make gardening here even more enjoyable.

🎥 Watch the new video here and see all the changes for yourself. We hope you love this chapter of the renovation as much as we do.

À bientôt,

Bonjour everyone, Winter has truly arrived here in southwest France. We've had a proper cold snap this week, and would you believe it, we actually woke up to snow in Bordeaux! It's such a rare sight that half the neighbourhood was out taking photos. But the novelty wore off pretty quickly when we realised just how freezing cold the house had become. And that's what finally pushed us to tackle a job we really should have done ages ago: insulating under the floorboards in the cellar. I know, I...

Bonjour, This week’s video is a special one: we’re giving you the full home tour. It’s been exactly two years since we picked up the keys to our 19th century house in southwest France, and what a journey it’s been. Some rooms are finally livable (hooray!), while others… well, let’s just say we’ve got our work cut out for us. You can watch the complete room-by-room walkthrough in the video, or keep reading for all the behind-the-scenes details and a few extra stories we couldn’t fit in. The...

Bonjour everyone, We've got a special one for you today: our bedroom transformation is finally on the channel! This room has been quite the journey. When we first got the keys to the Chartreuse, the bedroom was an absolute state: mouldy walls, plasterboards stuck to the original stone that had to come off, a hole in the wall that needed fixing, dodgy gutters, ancient plastic window... the list goes on. We had to sort the gutters, replace the windows, insulate properly, and then tackle...
